June 29, 2026 · Global
Ruben Dias, the Manchester City defender, is attracting the attention of Real Madrid, and there is talk about whether City should let him go this summer. Dias is a key player for City and has a contract until 2029.
In the Transfer Insider podcast, journalist Pete O'Rourke provides the latest news regarding the future of Manchester City defender Ruben Dias this summer. O'Rourke stated, "There appears to be interest from Real Madrid in Dias, and an offer to move to Madrid would be hard for any player to ignore, not just him. This could be a saga that stretches into the summer, but Manchester City don't want to lose Dias. If Madrid get any indication that he could be taken from the Etihad, they will try to bring him to the Spanish capital."
Dias has been in solid form for the Mancunian club, putting in a series of impressive displays in defence. The Portugal international made 33 appearances for Man City last season, scoring twice in various competitions. This 29 year old player is one of the most experienced center backs in the Premier League. Therefore, Man City must focus on retaining his services after this summer.
His contract at the Etihad Stadium will expire in the summer of 2029. Therefore, the Mancunian giants are not under any immediate pressure to let him go in this transfer window.

Dias is a solid pen tackle and is able to read danger well to secure possession again for his team in the defensive area. He usually clears the ball when opponents attack and can utilize his strong frame (1.87 m) to dominate opposing attackers in the air.
The Portuguese star excels at playing the ball from the back. Dias has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and remains an important member of the Man City squad. However, if Dias prefers to move to Real Madrid, it would be natural for Man City to let him leave this summer. He has been a good servant to the club and has the right to leave as he wishes. At 29 years old, Dias is at the peak of his career. Therefore, Man City should consider letting him go if they receive a good offer before the end of this transfer window.
