Tottenham Hotspur Target Transfer Deal for Manchester City Goalkeeper

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign one of England's young talents, James Trafford, from Manchester City. This move brings Tottenham to compete with interest from Newcastle United who have long wanted the 23 year old goalkeeper. Despite winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last season, Trafford still has to fight to get a main place at Manchester City behind Gianluigi Donnarumma. Currently, Trafford is participating in the World Cup with the England national team, and with Enzo Maresca officially taking over as coach at Manchester City, talks regarding a possible transfer are expected to materialize soon. Tottenham Hotspur, under the tutelage of coach Roberto De Zerbi, is reportedly looking to add competition strength in the goalkeeping department, and Trafford's profile as a local talent with good distribution abilities fits perfectly with De Zerbi's tactical strategy.  Over the last 12 months, Trafford has had a remarkable run at the Etihad Stadium after returning to Manchester City from Burnley for a fee of £27m via a buy-back clause. He is expected to be the club's first choice regular goalkeeper. However, the arrival of Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain meant that Trafford only played four times in the Premier League last season. Despite being a substitute, he proved his worth by starting and winning both the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal and the FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley, showing his ability in key moments. According to a report from Miguel Delaney of The Independent, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in carrying out transfer negotiations with Manchester City regarding current reserve goalkeeper, James Trafford, this summer. The transfer saga comes amid major changes at the Etihad Stadium following the departure of Pep Guardiola and the arrival of Enzo Maresca, who is scheduled to hold definitive talks with Trafford to explain his position in the squad following his stint with the England national team. Trafford, who is currently fighting with Thomas Tuchel's team at the 2026 World Cup, has not hidden his desire to play regularly at the highest level, in the hope of taking over Jordan Pickford's position as England's main goalkeeper. However, getting Trafford will not be an easy task for Tottenham management, considering Newcastle United are long-standing admirers who have already initiated contact, while Brighton, Aston Villa and Juventus are also reportedly monitoring the situation. Manchester City are expected to command a huge fee – likely in the range of £50 to 60 million for a player whose contract runs until 2030 – so Spurs will have to move quickly if they are to win the race for one of England's most promising young stars.
