Handball World Cup 2027: Germany Gets Favorable Group in Munich

The groups for the 2027 Handball World Cup in Germany have been drawn, with Germany facing Serbia, Tunisia and Uruguay in the preliminary round.

On Wednesday evening, the groups for the 2027 Handball World Cup in Germany were drawn. The host, who is also the representative of European champions, Germany, will compete against Serbia, Tunisia and Uruguay in the preliminary round. The World Cup will be held from 13 to 31 January 2027 in six cities in Germany, including Munich, Köln, Stuttgart, Kiel, Magdeburg and Hannover.

Germany, who will play their group stage matches in Munich, managed to get a favorable draw. Their first match will take place against Tunisia. This team has a clear target to win Group A and proceed to the next round by collecting maximum points.

During the tournament, three of the four teams in each preliminary group will advance to the next phase. In the main round, the two best teams from each of the four groups of six teams will advance to the quarter-finals.

Prior to this draw, only 30 of the 32 entrants had been named, with two wildcards awarded to Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. This is Turkey's debut at the World Cup, while Saudi Arabia is known as one of the countries that played a role in the development of handball in Asia.
