Jesse Marsch, coach of the Canadian national team, shares the hopes and challenges his team faces before facing South Africa in the 1/16 round of the 2026 World Cup.
The head coach of the Canadian national team, Jesse Marsch, gave a statement ahead of the 1/16 final match of the 2026 World Cup against the South African national team. The match will take place today, June 28, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, United States, with kickoff at 22:00 Moscow time.

"When talking about the World Cup playoffs, the fact that we have never been here before means that our team has never been in this situation. However, we have been in a similar position... Alphonso [Davies] has played in the Champions League final. We will face difficulties in this match, we will experience success, and there will be challenges, and the most important thing is that we are ready to accept all these challenges. For me, moments like this are life when you make a living from this situation," said Marsch as quoted on the official FIFA website.
After the group phase, the South African national team collected four points and finished second in Group A. Meanwhile, the Canadian national team also won four points and was in second place in Group B. The Argentine national team is the defending world champion, which in the 2022 World Cup final met France. The match ended in a 3-3 draw in normal time, but Argentina managed to win in the penalty shootout.
