Mikel Arteta, Arsenal coach, has officially signed a new contract that will keep him in office until 2030. In his statement, Arteta stated that this was only the "beginning" of Arsenal's success after winning the Premier League title last season. This deal is important considering that his previous contract will expire at the end of this season, and now Arteta has the opportunity to extend his tenure at the club for almost a decade after joining in December 2019.
Arteta expressed his gratitude for the opportunity given to continue his journey with Arsenal. "This club is unique, its character and the way this club makes you feel is very special. I am honored that our journey together will continue," said Arteta. He also added that he has built a special bond with the club and created memories that will last a lifetime.
This 44 year old coach has led Arsenal to win the Premier League and FA Cup titles. However, their journey in the Champions League came to a halt after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the final in May. With this new contract, Arteta becomes the coach with the longest tenure in the Premier League after Pep Guardiola left Manchester City.
Richard Garlick, Arsenal CEO, believes that Arteta's presence will give the team a competitive advantage. "Mikel is the only coach who has won the Premier League and is currently in charge of this league. Look at all the teams in the other traditional top six, all of them have had a change of coach, while we have a coach who has been with us for a significant time and has been given the opportunity to build and develop the team," he said.
Garlick emphasized the importance of not becoming complacent after achieving success. "We can't just sit back. We can't sit back and be complacent. This is the beginning, not the end of our journey. We want to dominate football in the next few years. We are in a very strong position to do so, but we need to continue to find the advantages that give us an advantage," he added.
The news of Arteta's new contract did not come as a surprise to many, given his interest and commitment to remaining at the club. The moment of winning the first Premier League title in 20 years and getting close to winning the Champions League is a big motivation for Arteta to continue the struggle to build a dynasty at Arsenal. The club's co-chairmen, Stan and Josh Kroenke, also expressed their pride in the achievements they have achieved with Arteta.
"We are very proud of everything we have achieved since he returned to the club in 2019. He has a deep understanding of Arsenal's values and carries them in his heart. He knows what this club means to everyone connected with him and is committed to building on everything we have achieved together," said Kroenke.
What happened next
With this new contract, Arteta will focus on strengthening Arsenal's squad in the upcoming transfer market, especially in terms of signing a midfielder who can support his long-term vision. Arsenal will likely be active in the transfer market to increase team depth ahead of next season.
