I played for about 60-70 minutes and felt good, although a little stiff for two or three days afterward. They asked if I was available for the Welsh Cup and I said yes. I still have lots of friends there and it's nice to be able to help and give back. I will not sign for another club. Going back to my roots and wearing the black and yellow jersey is really fun."
Williams, who is familiarly known as Jiws, is also involved in the world of football as head coach of the Wales Schools team and as an observer for BBC Wales and S4C. However, his return to the field would not have happened if he had not taken part in the London Marathon last April. "I've been training for the London Marathon, so I'm still pretty fit," he added. "If I hadn't trained for a marathon over the last year, I wouldn't have been in shape to run on a football pitch. I kept up my fitness level after the marathon – I didn't stop running. But playing football is different, having to rotate and accelerate, it puts more stress on the joints and muscles in a different way."
Although Williams didn't secure a spot in next year's London marathon, he hopes to participate again in a few years. He plans to continue running 10k events and half marathons to maintain his fitness and has no intention of hanging up his football boots. “I'm not officially retiring – I just wasn't picked by any squad,” he joked, recalling the moment he also appeared as a substitute for Llanberis in a league game at Cemaes Bay. "I've said, if they [Llanberis] want me to be part of the squad, I'll be happy to help. I saw and read that some of the other older players were inspired by what I did and thought 'I can still play.' "If this can motivate people to get back on track with health and fitness, then that's a good thing," concluded Williams.
