Lamin Yamal, striker for the Spanish national team, talks about his popularity and Spain's first match in the 2026 World Cup against Cabo Verde. Yamal appeared in the 71st minute and hoped for support from the fans in the next match.
Spain and Barcelona national team striker, Lamin Yamal, recently spoke about how he views the popularity he has gained. In the interview, Yamal responded to a picture of himself displayed on a building near the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, United States. "I face this calmly, there is nothing new in this. I know who I am, both in Spain and outside there. I try to give my best, because the people want it. If there is an image like that on the building, it is because I do something on the pitch that people like, that makes them look forward to my games," Yamal said as reported by RTVE.
In the Spanish national team's first match at the 2026 World Cup against Cabo Verde which ended in a 0-0 draw, Yamal came on as a substitute in the 71st minute. Next, Spain will face challenges from Saudi Arabia on June 21 and Uruguay on June 27 in the group phase of the tournament.
