Kylian Mbappe discussed the World Cup goal record held by Lionel Messi and Miroslav Klose, stating that he does not plan to play until he is 40.
French national team striker Kylian Mbappe commented on the World Cup goals record currently held by former German national team striker Miroslav Klose and Argentinian star Lionel Messi. Both players have scored 16 goals in the world tournament.
"I know Leo will score, he always does. And I'm still behind. I won't be here when I'm 40, you'll throw me out early (smile). I'm not looking far ahead, I want to enjoy this World Cup," said Mbappe as quoted by RMC Sport.

In the first group match against Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, Mbappe scored two goals which brought his total goals in the World Cup to 14. Meanwhile, Messi scored a hat-trick in the match against Algeria a few hours after Mbappe's appearance.
The group stages of the World Cup will take place from June 11 to 27, where teams will play against each other in a round-robin format (each team plays three matches). The two best teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, along with the eight best third-placed teams.
