England's greatest international? Kane is now a serious contender - Yahoo Sports.

Harry Kane, captain of the England national team, will write a new chapter in his history by equaling the record for most appearances held by Peter Shilton, if he plays in the UEFA Nations League match against the Czech Republic at Wembley. Currently, Kane has collected 124 appearances and is the all-time top goalscorer for England with 89 goals. His international journey began with a goal just 79 seconds after kickoff on his debut. Since the 4-0 win against Lithuania at Wembley in March 2015, Kane has been the backbone of the England national team. At 33 years old, he is still an irreplaceable player and is the top scorer in major tournaments with 21 goals in 36 matches, well ahead of Gary Lineker with 10 goals from 18 appearances.

Kane has currently made extraordinary achievements in his international career. He is 36 goals ahead of Wayne Rooney, England's second highest goalscorer who scored 53 goals in 120 matches. In a modern context, Kane can be said to be the most important and most influential player for the England national team. The only note that is missing from his brilliant career is the failure of the national team to add to its World Cup trophy collection, which was last won in 1966. However, Kane is now a strong candidate to be considered the best among English football legends.

Discussions regarding Kane's status as one of the greatest will always lead to the name of Bobby Moore, the legendary defender who became the only England captain to lift the World Cup in 1966. Moore, who was 25 at the time, had also achieved success at club level with West Ham United, before and after becoming world champions.

Other big names such as Sir Bobby Charlton are also no less important in this discussion. Charlton, who survived the Munich air disaster, became one of the icons of English football by winning the World Cup and leading Manchester United to become the first English team to win the European Cup. He scored 49 goals in 106 matches for England, placing him third on the list of top scorers.

Kane is now in a position to increase his number of appearances and, with his goal tally continuing to increase, he has the potential to cement his place in the ranks of the greatest players ever. Despite many highlighting the lack of major trophies in his international career, Kane continues to show exceptional quality and professionalism. He has proven himself to be an excellent goal scorer and exemplary professional.

As Kane approaches a record 125 appearances, he still has the opportunity to prove himself even more on the international stage, especially ahead of Euro 2028 which may be his last chance to win a major trophy. Former England player Danny Murphy revealed that the only thing Kane lacks is a title at a major tournament, and this is the only criticism that may always accompany him. However, his achievements and contributions cannot be underestimated, and in the near future, we might see Kane score more goals and also make more history for the England national team.

What happened next

If Kane plays in the UEFA Nations League match against the Czech Republic, he will equal Shilton's record and move closer to the status of an English football legend. With his performance continuing to improve, this season could be an important moment in his career, especially ahead of the upcoming World Cup, where hopes of winning trophies are getting bigger.
