One of the latest names to emerge in conversation is Exequiel Palacios, a 27 year old midfielder from Argentina. Palacios, who currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen, has extensive experience at the highest level. Since joining from River Plate in 2020, he has made 185 appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists, and was part of the team that won the Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season. His experience in Europe's top leagues and on the international stage makes him the ideal candidate to strengthen Ipswich.
Palacios also has an impressive background in the Argentine national team. He has made 41 appearances for his country and was part of the squad that won the 2022 World Cup. Although he only appeared once at the 2026 World Cup, his experience at major tournaments will be invaluable for a team looking to improve their performance.
Palacios' arrival at Ipswich will be a strong signal of the club's ambitions to compete in the league. With Lukic and Florentino Luis, Ipswich are targeting players who not only have the quality, but also the experience and fighting power needed in midfield. Palacios, with his technical ability and vision of the game, is believed to be able to add creativity and composition to ball control.
While there are concerns about the injury record of Palacios, who suffered a right adductor injury and was sidelined for four months last season, confidence in Ipswich's recruitment squad is key. If they are confident that Palacios is in good shape and can contribute, then the support from the fans for this move will be huge.
For Ipswich fans, the news of Palacios' possible arrival is something to be excited about. After losing Cajuste and Neil, bringing in a high caliber player like Palacios would be a significant step forward for the club. With these additions, Ipswich's midfield will have depth, authority and experience from the highest level. The winning mentality brought by Palacios, who has participated in the Bundesliga champion squad and the Argentinian national team, will certainly influence his colleagues on the pitch. In the context of a club like Ipswich, where momentum and belief are crucial, his presence could be a deciding factor in achieving success this season.
What happened next
Ipswich Town is expected to continue to be active in the transfer market, looking for quality players to strengthen their squad.
