Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich striker, gave positive news about his future at the club after winning the Ballon d'Or award last week. The 33-year-old revealed that he hopes to sign a new contract within the "next few days". His current contract expires next summer after he signed a four-year deal when he left Tottenham in 2023.
Despite speculation over his future, including a possible return to the Premier League to chase Alan Shearer's all-time goalscoring record, the England captain appears ready to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena. In a press conference ahead of the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, Kane said: "I would say it is more a matter of days, not weeks. There were good conversations over the weekend and today too. I know I keep saying we are close, but we are very close now. The details in each contract are small things, but a lot of the big things have been worked out and we are happy with that."
Kane also added, "However, as always, there are a lot of little things that lawyers need to iron out and clarify. So overall, I think it's more about days than weeks. From what I've heard, conversations went well again today and hopefully we can reach an agreement in the next few days."
Last season, Kane scored 73 goals for club and country, as well as winning two trophies in Germany and guiding England to third place at the World Cup. This achievement ensured he won the Ballon d'Or, making him the first Englishman to win this prestigious award since Michael Owen in 2001.
After celebrating winning the Ballon d'Or on Saturday, Kane experienced an unlucky moment in Bayern Munich's 2-2 draw against rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, where he missed a penalty and hit the post. Before the match, Kane expressed his pride in being an FC Bayern Munich player, "Hello everyone, I would like to say that I am very proud to be an FC Bayern Munich player. The support you have shown me since I arrived has been incredible."
With all these developments, Bayern Munich fans certainly hope that there will be good news regarding Kane's contract extension in the near future.
