Frenkie de Jong: Keep Watching Until You See It
June 22, 2026 · Global
Frank Heinen reflects on the criticism Frenkie de Jong faced and shares insight into the Dutch player during the World Cup.

Columnist Frank Heinen highlighted the criticism experienced by Frenkie de Jong in a recent article. A big advantage of the soccer World Cup—aside from being able to watch games all night long while convincing yourself that it's part of the job—is the opportunity to get to know the background of the Oranje players. Heinen admits he can't get enough: from their first club, first girlfriend, to the time when Denzel Dumfries ran the Koek hall at Albert Heijn in Barendrecht. He also remembered about Virgil's children and about the national team coach's cousin, Fred Koeman, who reportedly could shoot harder than his brother, even louder than a gunshot, as people in Groningen said. Fred was even invited by NASA to do an internship, but there was no further news after that.
