Florentino Perez Confirms Signing of Liverpool Defender Ibrahima Konate – "He Won't Be the Only One"


This week has been very busy at the Real Madrid offices, not only because of the presidential election that took place on Sunday between Florentino Perez and Enrique Riquelme. The team is working hard to add to the main squad which currently does not have a coach. However, this issue will be resolved once the election results are announced. If Perez is re-elected, he will herald the return of Jose Mourinho, who will return to the Bernabeu for the first time in 13 years, and the 79-year-old has also arranged the signing of at least one new centre-back. Earlier this week, it was reported that Real Madrid had reached an agreement to sign Ibrahima Konate after his contract with Liverpool expires at the end of this month, and Perez confirmed the news in an interview with Diario AS. "We are working on all these additions. I can confirm that if I remain president of Real Madrid, one of the great defenders in the world like Konaté, will play for Real Madrid starting next season. And he will not be the only great defender who will also come if I continue to lead Real Madrid," said Perez. Perez also confirmed that the decision on whether Nico Paz will be brought back to Real Madrid will now be made by the next coach, who will most likely be Mourinho if his presidency which began in 2009 is extended. "Nico Paz is one of the great players who has been trained in our academy and is now one of the players that big European clubs are fighting for. He has had a great season with Como in Italy and we, as you know, have the possibility of including him this year. We will decide with the coach and the coaching staff."
