Celtic open to negotiations with Boca Juniors: Why should Marcelo Saracchi be a priority?

June 27, 2026 · Global

Bagikan:

Celtic are in talks with Boca Juniors to sign Marcelo Saracchi after his successful loan spell. The club must decide whether to pay the €1.5 million fee demanded by Boca Juniors.

Parkhead have opened a new dialogue with Boca Juniors, according to a report from Josh McCafferty. Their mission? Securing Marcelo Saracchi long term. The Uruguayan defender spent last season on loan in Glasgow, showing solid form before a hamstring injury halted his momentum temporarily. He appeared 27 times, scoring one goal and providing two assists during his loan spell.

Celtic's initial preferences were quite simple. They want to extend the loan period. However, Saracchi wants stability at this stage of his career, so he rejected the option of another loan. No more bag packaging. As a result, the decision is now in Celtic's hands. Argentine club Boca Juniors are also unwilling to make another loan and are asking for a fixed fee of €1.5 million to release Saracchi permanently. The management must now decide whether to pay the amount or withdraw from the negotiating table.

Spending €1.5 million to acquire Saracchi was a smart business move. The left-back position is an area that really needs attention for manager Martin O’Neill, who desperately needs reliable support and real competition in that side. Kieran Tierney cannot carry that burden alone. Luckily, the Uruguay international has proven that he fits into the team's strategy during the recent doubles campaign.

With significant experience under his belt, including 27 games in the Turkish Super League with Galatasaray and domestic competitions for Boca, getting Saracchi early would prevent unnecessary complications at the end of the summer transfer window. We all know how last-day pushy deals usually go. Management must avoid haggling over small differences in finances for crucial squad components.

Very annoying. The defender provides natural balance, has excellent recovery speed, and displays keen cross-field vision. Losing a stable of players for relatively low fees could create unnecessary friction for a squad preparing for Europe's elite nights. Years of development at River Plate and RB Leipzig showed that he would not shrink under immense pressure. The decision makers at Parkhead should just write a check and sort out the defense immediately.
