Carragher: 'Relieve Carrick of the Burden Now'
Why this is important
The 0-3 defeat to Bournemouth shows that Manchester United is in a very worrying condition, with inconsistent performance. Jamie Carragher believes that the sacking of Michael Carrick is an important step to restore the team's direction and rebuild trust between players and coach. In the context of Ngoại hạng Anh's rivalry, these poor results could have a negative impact on their season.
Background
Michael Carrick was previously considered a solution for Manchester United after replacing Ruben Amorim, but poor results at the start of the 2026-2027 season show that the team is still looking for an identity and consistent performance. Carrick, who helped the team achieve Champions League football, now faces a huge challenge to rebuild trust among key players such as Bruno Fernandes.

- Jamie Carragher urged Manchester United to sack Michael Carrick immediately after their 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, considering this was the best solution for the club and the coach.
- Carragher: 'Hãy giải thoát Carrick khỏi nỗi khổ ngay hôm nay'.
Carragher argued that Carrick may no longer want to continue working with the current players. "Carrick wants change. He doesn't want to continue sitting on the coaching bench with those players. Release him now," said Carragher.
In the interview, Carragher also criticized Bruno Fernandes who he considered disrespectful to Carrick. Fernandes, who after the defeat to Como was seen questioning the coach's tactics, was considered by Carragher to be a shameful act. Carragher emphasized that Fernandes should not shift responsibility to the coach while he himself has not lived up to expectations.
According to Carragher, Manchester United cannot build a stable team if key players continue to openly challenge the coach's authority. Carrick was previously considered a solution for Manchester United when he replaced Ruben Amorim in the 2025-2026 season, where he managed to lead his team to a ticket to the Champions League and was then appointed as permanent coach. However, entering the 2026-2027 season, all these achievements seem to be fading quickly.
United are now experiencing a decline in performance both in terms of results and style of play, and the tension between Carrick and several key players is increasingly visible. After the defeat to Bournemouth, Carrick continued to show a firm attitude in the press conference. However, his lingering applause to the supporters at Old Trafford after the final whistle led to speculation that it could be a farewell.
Meanwhile, even though the players received negative cheers from supporters because of their poor performance, Carrick's name was still supported by supporters after Bournemouth's third goal. The crowd at the stadium also expressed their anger towards club owner and Director of Football Jason Wilcox. Gary Neville, Carrick's former teammate at Manchester United, also predicted that the club may soon take a decision to change coach. "It will be very difficult for Carrick to continue leading Manchester United," said Neville. "Maybe they will fire him," he added.
With the situation becoming increasingly complicated, Carrick's future at Manchester United is now a big question mark, and many parties are starting to wait for an official decision from the club management.
What happened next
If Manchester United decide to sack Carrick, they need to immediately find a replacement who can bring new stability and motivation to the team. With the pressure mounting, this decision will greatly affect their season outlook in Ngoại hạng Anh. Meanwhile, players like Bruno Fernandes must show more responsibility and improve their performance so as not to become a burden on the new coach.
