Almere City FC succeeded in delaying Heracles Almelo's move to win the first period title in the Keuken Kampioen Division after beating FC Volendam. In the match that took place on Saturday night, Almere showed a solid performance and took advantage of the opponent's weaknesses which continued in their poor performance on the road. FC Volendam, who were previously relegated from the Eredivisie, have not managed to pick up a single point on their journey despite collecting all the points at home.

In this match, Almere City, who was the host, appeared to be pressing from the start. They opened the scoring through Enzo Cornelisse who scored after receiving an excellent pass in a well-organised attack. Although Volendam had several chances to equalize in the first half, they failed to capitalize on them. Almere's success in scoring a goal made them lead 1-0 until the end of the match.

One crucial moment occurred when Volendam's Emanuel Poku was drawn in the penalty area, but the referee did not award a penalty. This decision was not beneficial for Volendam who were increasingly under pressure after conceding. With this result, Almere City is now in an advantageous position to compete with Heracles in the first period title race, who will next face RKC Waalwijk in the home match.

In another match, RKC Waalwijk recorded another draw, which was the fifth time in this competition. They played against a solid team, with Jesse van de Haar scoring the opener after benefiting from a referee's decision to give advantage. However, after the first half, RKC was unable to maintain the lead and the opponent's Bryan Van Hove managed to equalize. With this result, RKC Waalwijk remains in seventh place in the standings.

Meanwhile, De Graafschap, who had just emerged from the relegation zone, continued their struggle. They managed to win after falling behind to FC Eindhoven. Rayan Buifrahi opened the scoring for Eindhoven, but Gabriele Finocchiaro changed the course of the match with a goal that put De Graafschap back on winning ways.

This weekend's matches show the tight competition in the Keuken Kampioen Division, where every point is very valuable to determine the fate of the team in the standings. Almere City is now continuing to chase Heracles Almelo, who is still leading, but this result gives hope for other teams to compete for the top position.

What happened next

Almere City FC is now preparing to face RKC Waalwijk in their next home match, where a win will bring them closer to the first term title. The upcoming match will be an important test for both teams in the context of this season.
