Why this is important
Abdellah Ouazane's decision to choose the Moroccan national team shows his commitment to identity and cultural heritage. Abdellah Ouazane, currently registered as a Jong Ajax player, hopes to soon make the switch to the Ajax first team. In the Conference League play-off match against FC Sion, Ouazane impressed by registering two assists in front of the eyes of the Moroccan national team coach.
With the departure of Mika Godts to Paris Saint-Germain, Ouazane got the opportunity to appear on the left wing, even though it is not his favorite position as an attacking midfielder. "I'm happy to be playing, I'm still young and have to work hard. I don't have a choice. Looking at who is playing in position 10, the competition is very tight with Julian Brandt and Oscar Gloukh. So, if I am given the opportunity to play on the left wing, I will take advantage of it," said Ouazane in the mixed room after the match.
Although not the favorite position, Ouazane showed a good performance, especially in the second half, where he was able to collaborate with Brandt. "In the second half, I felt comfortable playing. It was great playing with Brandt, he really understands the game. He knows when to pass the ball to his feet or into space, and he recognizes the qualities of his teammates," he added.
Despite still having to improve the depth of his game, coach Míchel hopes Ouazane can develop further. Ouazane's main goal is to earn a place in Ajax's A squad. "I'm officially still at Jong, I'm still in the Jong dressing room, that's where I shower and keep my clothes. I've been training with the first team since pre-season, but I don't have a place in the dressing room yet. I have to fight for that place. I hope to get good news soon, because everyone is working for it. It's very special to be able to play with the first team, so I hope to get a place. However, the fact that I'm getting a lot of minutes shows that I'm on the right track," he explained.
Ouazane's performance also attracted attention in Morocco, where national team coach Mohamed Ouahbi was seen watching the match at the Johan Cruijff Arena. Ouazane has not yet had the opportunity to speak to Ouahbi, but the coach's presence at the match shows concern for him. "I have spoken to my parents about wanting to play for Morocco. I am open to all possibilities, but I am happy with my choice. My goal is to represent Morocco. I have already started playing in the U-15 team, and having the coach here certainly provides additional motivation for me.
With the talent he has, Abdellah Ouazane has a great chance of becoming one of the future stars of Ajax and the Moroccan national team, as long as he continues to show consistent performance and works hard.
What happened next
With Mika Godts moving to Paris Saint-Germain, Ouazane now has a greater opportunity to appear in the Ajax first team. If he continues to show good form, especially in collaboration with players like Julian Brandt, there is a possibility that he will earn a place in the main squad and contribute more in the Eredivisie.
